The Muni Tour Stops at Blackstone National Golf Club in Early April

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

This course has a beautiful setup, with wide fairways and a straight forward look from the tees. I find that you do not need to be exceptionally long to play the course from the back tees. There are many elevated tees. This makes it a golf course for riding in a cart. Actually, they only permit walking during the weekdays, which could help with the pace of play on the weekends. If you find yourself playing where it is a cart path only day, plan to play the course like you are walking it. The wide fairways that look so great to land your ball also provide a long walk to your shot when the cart path is on the opposite side. Do make sure to bring your own GPS or range finder as it will also help you as you play the course. Blackstone National Golf Club is well marked, but there are no GPS systems in the carts. The range has plenty of space to warm and has a grass area for hitting every club in your bag if you like. It is usually open, however, due to the early season start to the golf season had yet to dry out while I was there. The range is also uphill and has two sides. Be careful with the big stick if you are a long driver. I had a guy on the opposite side of the range let me know he was on the other hand, and he was clearly not pleased about a ball landing close to him.

Conditions: Early in the season, conditions were better than expected. All the holes were open for play, and the greens were running smoothly after hibernating under tarps all winter. Difficulty: The course was straight forward from the tees. They also provide detailed computerized hole layouts and information on how to play each hole on their website. Practice Green: The putting green appeared a bit slower than the rest of the course. It was unclear if they had started cutting the grass at this point in the season. Value: I believe this is an excellent course for the price. With the early season weekend price of about $60, which includes a cart and range balls. Range: Yes, there is a range with real grass, however, when asked if the driving range was open, the starter replied they would not open the driving range until later in April. Wear a hard hat: Definitely not a hard hat course. The holes are typically surrounded by trees, and you rarely see golfers from other holes playing the course.
