New Meadows Golf Course in Topsfield, MA

Updated: Apr 1, 2020

New Meadows is your friendly neighborhood course, where everyone wants to meet you and get to know you when you play here. New Meadows GC in the North Shore is not far from the Topsfield Fair and has all the golf you could want at a golf course. A beautiful 9-holer with deep green coloring and a friendly atmosphere.

It is simple and straight forward yet challenging enough to keep a golfer interested. Greens were in great shape thanks to a superb superintendent and his diligent work. The people that work here will tell you when you first arrive, how beautiful the course is and how great the superintendent is as keeping in great shape. They were not wrong. Everything was deep green in the early fall season, and from their comments, it would appear to stay that way during the spring and summer seasons. There were some spots that water was reluctant to leave alone, but for the most part, the course remained dry.

There are a couple out of bounds, dense and tall trees to keep a golfer from recovering a par from a poorly hit shot off the fairway. Not much resistance to scoring on these 9 holes as the greens are easy to approach, and the length is not much of factor from the back tees. Do be careful of the trees as they can cause problems for errant shots. Walking this course is relatively easy. There are some elevation changes; however, the holes were laid out well, so that walks uphill or to tees were kept short.

The invitation to this golf course is on the side of the road as you drive by the 4th hole. That is when I saw how green this course looked as I drove by. I was actually on my way to play another golf course when I decided I needed to see what this course had to offer. I was surprised to find that it is a public golf course once I looked it up on the internet. There is adequate variety here as there is plenty of fun but simple holes that will keep the golfing enjoyable. The takeaways I had from this course was the friendliness of the people that work here and the pureness of golf here.

Conditions: The conditions were overall good to great. Greens were running truthfully and on the faster side while being able to hold spin. The course had only one hole where it was recovering from water, undrained, as you can see in the video. Difficulty: There is only one blind tee shot if you can carry the hill on the par 5, 7th hole. Everything is laid out in front of the golfer at this course. Practice Green: Yes, there is a small practice green near the clubhouse. Value: It is cash only here and only $20 for 9 holes or about $30 for 18 holes. Range: No, there is no range at the course. Wear a hard-hat: The trees and surrounding forest protects the golfer well here. However, do keep in mind that the course is not long, so careful to look twice down the fairway before teeing off.
