Goodie, Goodie, Gumdrop! It’s Goodwin Park Golf Course in Hartford, Connecticut.

Goodwin Park Golf Course is Hartford, Connecticut's municipal golf course. Here you will find 27 holes for golfing. There is the North course known as the "Flat Course," which is a 9-holer at 2,544 yards for beginner golfers and for experienced golfers to sharpen their games. The second course, the South course, is a full 18 holes at 6,015 yards. Just a pitch over 6,000 yards, the south course par 70 features present golfers with challenging risk-reward holes, forced carries, and narrow-tree lined holes.

Goodie Park has a sprinkling of short tight holes, long wide-open approachable holes, and dogleg-holes that bend both ways. Goodwin Park can be played with a variety of tee shots. Playing aggressive shots on shorter holes will leave golfers with less than full wedges or golfers who can play positional, more "target golf," leaving golfers with full 8-PW approach shots. For those looking to simply keep the ball in play, a tee-ball anywhere from 210-250 yards plays well on every hole.

Goodwin Park relies on tall trees, some narrow fairways, and a few forced carries over water to protect itself from low scores. Shorter hitters of the golf ball will see Goodwin park as a good test of hitting a straighter shot and keep it in the fairway. It is easy to see how longer hitters will want to go for the greens from every tee. However, Goodie cannot be bullied by long hitters and will punish them for being missing on aggressive shots, which will quickly escalate their scores.

Golfers who are more accurate off the tee and less accurate on approach shots will face less trouble than golfers who are the opposite. Most of the challenges facing golfers at this course will be shown to them on the tee box. There is more area to miss around the greens from most fairways. At a muni recovering from wayward shots can be trickier than at other courses as there is a wide variety of lies that players will get off-fairways and off-greens.

The front nine remains flatter walk than the back nine. There are some short steep climbs on the back nine, such as the 10th tee, 12th green, 14th green and 18th green. Overall the course at just over 6,000 yards does not have much elevation change, making walking the course easy.

After playing Goodwin Park, it is easy to see why it is a fan favorite of the local Hartford golfers. The city has invested in the course, and the conditions are improving. Golfers will find affordable golf at Goodwin Park for under $40 as non-residents of Hartford. This course offered here as a comfortable and leisurely walk around the park with a beguiling golf course.

The most memorable part of playing here is the lack of action surrounding the golf course, unlike other inner-city munis. For an inner-city municipal golf course, you will find the people walking the golf course like cart paths on walking paths and typically cookouts on near tee boxes and greens. However, Goodwin Park was a much calmer and relaxed municipal golf course for an inner-city golf track.

Conditions: The conditions are improving as it was still early in the golf season.

Difficulty: Most experienced golfers will find this course easy due to the shortness of the golf course while beginner golfers will delight in the challenges it presents.

Practice Green: There is a sizeable sloped practice green, open to chipping, and putting next to the clubhouse.

Value: Under $40 for non-resident golfers.

Range: There is an open range with synthetic turf hitting bays.

Wear a hard hat: A hard hat should be considered here. The holes lay close to together, and new golfers to the course may find themselves in areas on the golf course in danger of getting struck with a golf ball.
