"Farm-to-Golf" offered at Tunxis Country Club in Farmington, Connecticut

Tunxis Country Club boasts itself as the largest golf complex in New England with 45 holes of golf. This massive complex contains two full 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course. The three courses are for different levels of golfers or for golfers looking to play various styles of golf courses. The White is the most challenging course with a bit more length and water on the course. The Green Course is more open with less water, and it is shorter than the White Course. The Red course is only 9 holes for families, beginners, and less experienced golfers.

The layout is simple is does not require too much guesswork from golfers. Each course is built to fit each level of golfer, from beginner to the more experienced. While all levels of golfers are welcome to play any of the golf courses, each one is laid out to make golf enjoyable for all golfers.

The Green course feels wide off the tee and is shorter from tee to green. The golf course remains a flatter, open style course like a links golf course. However, the back nine starts to move away from that design and become more like the white course, offering more challenging golf holes requiring more precise shots than the front 9 holes. The White course is the most challenging 18 holes has many more hazards while trying to challenge golfers with a bit more distance than the Green Course. Indeed, it will be tougher to recover from the water on the White course than a wayward shot on the green the course. The White course also features smaller greens, some lush rough and on course water.

Since the land was previously used as a plantation, it is a flatter golf course with less fairway contour or vertical changes. This makes walking the course and the entire premise without the use of cart easy. This could also mean you can play more golf in one day. With 45 holes, you would not have to look far for another 18 or 9 holes to play. The conditions are appetizing. The greens ran smoothly while being able to respond well to spin. The fairways are getting tighter, and the greens are gaining speed. There are not many places on the course you could find a bad lie.

The course is laid on a plantation with some visible relics still left on the course like an old silo. The front 9 on the Green Course uses bunkers, tall grass, and narrow fairways to keep golfers from shooting an ideal score. The back nine does feel and play differently than the front nine on the Green Course with the little bit of water it has on that nine. The Green course does not try to deceive or trick the golfer. There is only one blind tee shot on the course and one hidden hazard on the back nine. The White course certainly has some of the feels of the other courses but comes to life around the 7th through 12th holes. Those holes will leave a lasting impression on any golfer who plays here. The red is a more straightforward course for beginners that can also cater to families or golfers looking to squeeze in a quick nine into their day.

The Farmington river plays a crucial role in making this course aesthetically beautiful. The river shaped the property and allowed the golf course to create some stunning view of other holes on the course. As golfers approach the 7th hole on the White Course, the water hazard makes it possible to see about 6 holes from one green.

The most memorable views are from the infinity greens on the 7th and 12th holes. The 7 through 12 holes on the White Course are some of the best holes on the course and at the country club. Not only are the views cool because of all the holes you can see, but the golf around the holes is also impressive. There are two infinity greens, a par 3 that plays over the water, another par 4 that plays into the water, and finally a par 5 that uses the water as a lateral water hazard.

The public accessibility to the course is ideal. With 45 holes, it would take at least a weekend to golf every hole without you having to have deep pockets. Tunxis is a public country club with municipal prices. It is $49 to walk while playing golf on the weekend or $43 to walk on the weekdays.
