A Northern New England Golf Course in Southern New England, Twin Hills CC in Coventry, CT

Just 15 minutes outside of Hartford, Connecticut, is Twin Hills Country Club. Twin Hills Country Club, located in Coventry, Connecticut, provides a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff that will make you feel like a long-time member for the day. With excellent ownership looking to improve the golf course combined with a superintendent who could probably grow grass during the dust bowl of the 1930s, has brought the resplendence of the lush, rolling hills of Twin Hills back to the golfers.

It is important to note that the superintendent has had his work cut out to keep this course, especially these greens, in splendid condition. Without using an underground irrigation system, he has improved the golfing conditions and the quality of golf found at Twin Hills Country Club.

Not just the staff is friendly and inviting, but so is the golf course. Golfers will enjoy the shorter par 4s that provide more chances at birdie while the par 3s will keep golfers honest about their abilities. There is a combination of shorter par 4s with just a couple of longer challenging par 4s. The narrow par 5s fit well with the open par 3s that balance the golf course. Golfers will enjoy being able to lay back on tee shots or challenge themselves and their short games by going for more aggressive shots.

There is decent width to the fairways on a course created before designing courses with width was popular. This allows for golfers to miss fairways and greens without too much penalty. Most green complexes are decently sized, and they are accepting of shots from most angles. There are tall trees that guard the edges of the rough, providing isolation from other golfers, lost balls, and unplayable lies.

Twin Hills has a rural feel that makes walking the course feel more like a nature walk. It is more of a walk than a hike through the hills as the holes rise and fall smoothly. It features doglegs that bend sharply and gently around the property. There is a bit of water sprinkled throughout the property with sloped fairways that can take the ball into the hazards. The bunkering is well placed but used sparingly around the course and green complexes.

It is a Northern New England feeling golf course in a southern New England town. It is similar to playing on a rural hillside. However, it is just outside of Hartford, Connecticut. Twin Hills Country Club also features covered bridges, walking bridges, and the signature stone bridge. The signature bridge is Twin Hills’ “Ben Hogan Bridge,” their “Masters Bridge.” The bridge is the most prominent feature along with the red bell. Golfers will use the stone bridge twice on the course to cross the water, both on the par 5, 3rd hole, and again on the par 4, 17th hole.

The most memorable hole is the par-5, third hole that features both the large red bell and the signature stone bridge. Also, a close second is an excellent atmosphere surrounding the golf at Twin Hills. The head golf professional has featured on-course giveaways available to the public and members that play here on the weekends.

Golfers will find $45 or less to play on the weekdays and weekends and $22 twilight rate, an excellent value to play here. Even on the most packed days, a golfer will be able to play 18 holes in under three and a half hours.
